G20 Event - People's Summit

The events of the Summit will be taking place:
  • Saturday, Sept. 19, 2009 at the Twentieth Century Club (Oakland) 4201 Bigelow Blvd. from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
  • Monday, Sept. 21 at the New Hazlett Theater (North Side) Allegheny Square East at 7:00 p.m.
  • Tuesday, Sept. 22 at the Twentieth Century Club at 7:00 p.m.
Speakers confirmed for the event: Howard Zinn, Walden Bello, James Quilligan, Tim Stevens, State Senator Jim Ferlo, Carl Redwood, Molly Rush, Anthony Arnove, and Jeremy Scahill.

While acting as neither pro- nor anti- G-20, the Peoples' Summit is an educational and informative event concerned with attaining global economic development that promotes social justice and human rights, linking the local, national, and global. It seeks to advance:

  1. The elimination of hunger and poverty
  2. An end to all forms of racism
  3. The rights and dignity of labor
  4. Freedom and empowerment of women
  5. Education for all, especially for youth
  6. Adequate health care as a basic human right
  7. The creation of safe and inclusive communities
  8. An end to war and to the conditions that cause war
  9. The human rights of the vulnerable - refugees, immigrants, the disabled, etc.
 10. The preservation of our planet's ecosystem
